Strength Training for Homeschool Athletes: What Parents Should Know
Homeschool families ask us a version of the same question all the time: "My athlete plays club sports, but there's no school weight room or athletic period. How do they keep up?" The answer is strength training for homeschool athletes, built into the school day the same way math and reading are. Here's what that looks like and why it matters.
The Gap Homeschool Athletes Face
Athletes in traditional schools often get a built-in athletic period, a weight room, and a strength coach as they get older. Homeschool athletes usually don't. They show up to club practice with the same goals as everyone else, but without the structured strength and speed work their teammates may be getting during the school day.
That gap is fixable. It just has to be planned.
The Homeschool Advantage: The Middle of the Day

Here's the upside. Homeschool schedules are flexible, and the middle of the day is wide open. While most athletes are in class, a homeschool athlete can train rested, fed, and focused, instead of squeezing a session in at 7 PM after a full day and before homework.
It also frees up evenings for practices, games, and family time.
What Good Strength Training for Homeschool Athletes Looks Like
Whatever the setting, strength training for homeschool athletes should follow the same rules we use with every athlete:

Technique first. Athletes learn to move well before they add load. Weight is earned over time.
Age-appropriate work. A 7-year-old and a 17-year-old shouldn't train the same way. Younger athletes build coordination, balance, and body control. Older athletes build strength, speed, and explosive power on top of that base.
A certified coach leading every session. Someone should be watching every rep and correcting it.
Consistency. Two sessions a week, every week, beats a burst of work right before a season.

More Than Physical
Training gives homeschool athletes something else: a coach who holds them to a standard and a group of athletes working toward the same thing. They learn to show up on time, listen, push through the hard parts, and encourage the athlete next to them. That discipline and confidence carry over on and off the field.
Homeschool Training at Marion Fitness and Nutrition
Our Homeschool program is for boys and girls ages 7–18 and runs in the afternoon, in a small group led by a certified coach. Athletes work on speed, strength, explosive power, agility, and footwork, with technique first.
Winter 2027 Homeschool training runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1–2 PM, January 5 through February 25. It's an 8-week program, and registration opens November 1.
Want something one-on-one? Private training is also available, and mornings are open for homeschool families. And if you're curious why winter is the right time to start, read why off-season training builds a real competitive edge.
